The Mekane Yesus School of Jazz Music and Media (MY-SoMM) stands as a prominent institution in our nation, dedicated to cultivating accomplished and professional musicians. Our mission is to offer cutting-edge music education to young, talented aspiring musicians. These individuals are poised to meet the evolving worship music needs of churches not only in Ethiopia but also across Africa. By doing so, they play a crucial role in advancing the Kingdom of God, contributing to the spiritual journey of believers, and actively participating in the ministry of music to bring the lost closer to Christ.

The MY-SoMM is the first Christian-oriented jazz music school in Ethiopia. Although music has been a part of the worship experience of the Ethiopian church from its foundation, there has been a growing concern over the deteriorating music ministry used in worship services. Missionaries who came to Ethiopia only did their best in introducing the limited Western styles of music, but have not been able to do much about the cultural musical instruments and singing styles that have existed here for centuries. Our school was born out of the agony felt by the church from such problems and inconsistencies that kept detracting from the worship experience.

In addition, the church has seen a continual decline in the quality of the songs written as they have shallow Theological and Spiritual significance, as well as professional musical standards. Our school strives to solve these issues and other problems related to the worship experience of the people of God. We aspire to elevate the level of the quality in music offered to our Savior and equip the trainees of our college with the right wisdom, skills and professionalism befitting servants of the Master of the Universe!
