MYS Library and Services
Mekane Yesus Library extension was put into use in April 13, 1975 with the number of 5000 book volumes. Mrs. Pramila suganandam was the first MYS Librarians in 1976. Rev. Dr. Gustav Aren did the first Library Books’ catalogue using Swedish system, but later it changed to Dewey decimal classification system by Jonny Bake and still the Library is using DDC System. By 1990 the Number of Book volume increased to 13,143 and now there are more than 39,831 volumes.
In 2022 the Library move to the new building because of space constraint and renamed MYS Library as Emmanuel’s Library. The Library Building has adequate three reading rooms that Can Occupied up to 130 users at a time.
The administration gave special attention to the Library and employee young professional Librarians and increase the number of employee in the Library department. The library is well-equipped with relevant, modern, theological literature beside many other literatures for other departments of the MYS. The library is equipped with author, title, and subject catalogues.
The Library plays an important role in supporting the MYS Collage mission through teaching and Research by making information resources easily and timely accessible to the students and faculty members.
There is also available, a collection of Ethiopian Orthodox parchments and other books dealing with Ethiopia which are kept in a special collection in the library.
The library is staffed with a full-time librarian (pictured below), two assistant librarians, and several student library assistants. They assist in finding titles and supervising proper care of all library assets. Students should leave all books on the tables in order that the qualified personnel return them to their proper places in the shelves. No books are allowed to be taken out of the library. The library is a place for quiet study only. Faculty and other persons by special permission may sign books out of the library for teaching purposes.
